About Us

Peterborough Schutzhund Club is dedicated to the ethical and humane training and handling of dogs!

The Peterborough Schutzhund Club was established to assist dog enthusiasts to develop their training abilities to properly train their dog in the sport of Schutzhund.  Participants in the club include both hobbyist and professional dog handlers with a range of experience from novice to some with more than 20 years.

Situated on private property, the training field has all the necessary apparatus required for Schutzhund.  The club grounds are located in a farm setting giving dogs the opportunity for added socialization associated with exposure to other animals and distractions.  We have a location safe from traffic and stray dogs, with ample room to track, exercise and train.

It is important for every club to have a code of standards that are designed to ensure safe and ethical training of handler and dog.  All visitors and members are asked to respect the rules of the club ensuring that they and their dog enjoy their day at the Peterborough Schutzhund Club.

Our club is a non-profit organization. We are dog enthusiasts who love the IPO sport. Each dog is important regardless of breed. We believe most important goal is the fun we can experience from each other. We welcome all dog/handler teams as long as they want to learn and are committed and have a dog with correct temperament.

We are a member of the German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada and a member of the Ontario Region.

German Shepherds

My favorite breed is German Shepherd Dog, overall the best working dog for the IPO Sport. We are a member of the German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada and a member of the Ontario Region

All are Welcomed

We welcome all dog/handler teams as long as they want to learn and are committed and have a dog with correct temperament. The most common breeds are German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Boxers, Rotweilers, Dobermans, Bouvier des Flandres but not limited to.

Keep them healthy

I like to see people work their dogs at least 4 times a week with high intensity. I only let the dog work with the handler.  Ideally the dogs should consume a high quality kibble like Orijen and Acana. Ideally a raw diet would be ideal.

Message From the President

I chose this sport because I found it exciting and the time I was a breeder of  German Shepherds and this way I could see what my dogs were made of.
